THE DEVELOPMENT BRIEF
Taste is part of the specification.
Botanical extracts and minerals can change a gummy’s taste, color and texture. An ingredient that works in a capsule may need a different approach here. We assess the formula with the gummy base and use samples to check the result.
Start with the ingredient amount you want in a serving and how many gummies that serving should contain. Those choices affect piece weight and production. Settle them before finalizing the label.
WHAT CAN BE CUSTOMIZED
Base, flavor and shape.
Choose the base
Pectin, gelatin and mixed-gel options can be discussed. For a plant-based product, check the ingredients, flavors and processing inputs as well as the gelling agent.
Set the flavor & sugar profile
Review fruit flavors, sweetness, acidity and any bitter or mineral notes from the formula. Sugar-free options need their own formula review and sampling; they are not a simple label change.
Define size, shape & finish
Agree on piece weight, shape, color and surface finish. Share a reference or proposed mold, then confirm availability, sample appearance and any tooling requirements.
PEOPLE, PROCESS & THE FINISHED PACK
Record the texture
as well as the flavor.
Keep a record of the approved piece weight, texture and surface finish. Include the sample version and any changes agreed during sampling, so the production team has a specific reference to work from.
Production images are used with permission from our manufacturing partners. The production site, equipment and documents for your order are confirmed against the agreed brief.
SAMPLING & PRODUCT REVIEW
What to check in your gummy sample.
Does the serving fit?
Review the target amount of each ingredient and how many pieces make a serving. Higher ingredient loading can affect flavor, texture and manufacturability.
Does it feel right?
Compare chew, firmness, stickiness and flavor with the agreed reference. Evaluate the actual formula, not a plain gummy base.
Will the pack protect it?
Discuss bottle or pouch size, closure and storage conditions. Moisture and temperature need to be considered when planning the pack and shipment.
A CLOSER LOOK
Gummy production
Finished gummy pieces collected in a stainless-steel tray.
Use your approved sample to record the appearance and piece dimensions for the production order.
PRODUCTION & PACKAGING
Packaging for the gummy’s size and count.
Review bottle or pouch size against the actual piece dimensions and count. Closure, sticking and storage conditions belong in the pack discussion, not just the label design.
- Approve together
- Gummy sample, piece count and pack fit.
- Record the version
- Formula, texture notes and final artwork.
BEFORE YOU START
Questions worth asking.
Need a detail that is not covered here? Send us your brief.
Can you develop pectin or sugar-free gummies?
We can review both options. The complete formula, desired texture, flavor system and destination-market requirements determine the workable route. Confirm the option through samples before making label claims.
Can botanical extracts be used in gummies?
Suitable botanical extracts can be reviewed, but taste, color, solubility and processing stability matter. Send the extract specification and target amount so the finished formula can be assessed.
Can I choose a custom shape?
Share your preferred shape, dimensions and expected quantity. Existing molds and new tooling have different development requirements; availability and costs are confirmed for the project.
Is a sample identical to the final retail pack?
Not necessarily. Confirm whether you are approving a formula sample, a pilot sample or a finished packaged sample. Record which sensory, packaging and testing criteria have been checked.
